PDM Precast, which produces precast concrete and other products, is planning a 51,355-square-foot addition to its facilities in Des Moines, a move that help the company keep pace with demand. 

“If  you drive around De s Moines, you see [PDM Precast] everywhere,” said Angie Pfannkuch of Sidekick Development, which offers owners’ representative services and other related development-related services. PDM Precast “is currently booked out until 2023.” Moving some work to an inside facility will help speed production, Pfannkuch told members of the Des Moines Urban Design Review Board this week. PDM Precast, founded in 2012, is located at  3312 E. Granger Ave.  in Des Moines. The site includes several buildings, the oldest of which was constructed in 1964, according to material provided to board members. The project, estimated to cost $4.25 million, includes adding more space onto a production building. Construction is expected to begin in the spring and be completed by fall. The board approved the project’s final design and financial assistance package, which includes a grant of up to $275,000 for the installation of fire suppression sprinkler systems. The board also approved: • The final design and proposed financial assistance package for a $22 million mixed-use project proposed by  Heart of America Group at 317 E. Sixth St.  The project includes construction of a seven-story building with street-level retail and 110 apartment units. The project is proposed to receive up to $2.3 million in tax increment financing assistance, paid over 20 years. • The final design for  a mixed-use project at 25th Street and Carpenter Avenue  that would include 116 apartment units, office space and street-level commercial space. The project by Merge Urban Development, a Cedar Falls firm partnering with Drake University, is expected to cost $22 million. • The design of a new entrance to the Des Moines Metropolitan Wastewater Reclamation Authority at 3000 Vandalia Road in Des Moines. The $6.5 million project also includes construction of a new guardhouse and two other buildings and installation of a paved parking lot. The authority, which comprises 17 metro-area municipalities, counties and sewer districts, works to protect public health and enhance the environment by recycling wastewater and being the preferred treatment facilities for hauled liquid wastes, according to material provided to the board.
